sitting since 1989 or ‘ 90 . I have also been interested in aircraft engines . He never told me what was on the tractor , and lo and behold , there was turbines . I was like , ‘ Oh yes . This is the greatest thing in my life .’
“ I didn ’ t have any family that was interested in anything like that . I ’ m a farmer and a truck driver . I work on my parents ’ farm , so I have been around tractors my whole life . I always went to fairs , and I had to see the tractor pulls back in the
day and tried to attend as much as I could . Fate came around , and I met my best friend Robert . It took off from there , and we both compete with Leather & Lace Pulling Team . It ’ s very rewarding talking to the fans and meeting all the people . It ’ s really nice . We ’ re like family . If anybody breaks down , everybody tries to help get it fixed .”
The teamed pulled at the Coshocton County Fair last year and intends to be there again this year .
“ As of right now , we will probably end up second , but you never
know ,” Hyde said . “ We have a 7,500-pound modified tractor , and it has four turbine engines on it . We pull a transfer sled , and the sled operator adds whatever weight he knows can stop us . We go for distance , and we pull from start to finish .”
They ’ ve had some rough rides though . “ They ’ ve put me in an ambulance a couple of times . It ’ s the name of the game with that kind of horsepower ,” Hyde said . “ We have competed as far away as Ocala , Florida . It ’ s a thrill to be behind the wheel of that much horsepower .”
