Youth leadership completes a service project

For the fifth year , the Coshocton County Youth Leadership class completed a service project on the grounds of Salt Fork Lodge and Conference Center in Cambridge , the location of the opening retreat .
The class , comprised of 15 youth from Coshocton County schools , was first tasked with selecting youth supervisors for the project , which was to remove overgrown holly bushes located next to the registration entryway on the ground level of the lodge . Emma King and Carter Fry were chosen to lead their teams and carefully strategized how to utilize not only their tools , but also the skill set of each member of the class . Despite what appeared to be an insurmountable task , the youth set about clearing the holly bushes , and within no time they were removed and properly disposed of — sidewalks and walkways cleared of debris and mulch laid down .
The lodge provided tools and mulch to complete the job , and time was allotted Sunday afternoon to plan how to complete the project . The youth leaders were to oversee the work being done and provide guidance while CCYL adult leaders and facilitators were to remain as observers .
At the end of the day , youth leaders provided feedback on how each group member worked to complete the project , and Shelly Payne , retreat facilitator , provided feedback on how each of the youth leaders led their teams . This was an opportunity for young leaders to learn project management skills in addition to giving and receiving feedback on a project .
Salt Fork Lodge staff commented how much they appreciate the project being completed to improve the look and create an inviting atmosphere to the entry . While completing the project , lodge guests stopped to watch and comment on how “ polite and kind ” the youth were and “ how hard they were working ” to complete the job .
A letter to the youth was received from the general manager , commenting on their “ professionalism and work ethic ” and welcoming each youth to “ gain onthe-job leadership skills ” by applying for employment with Salt Fork .
In addition to gaining project management skills , youth completed many activities to stretch their minds and push them out of their comfort zones while learning about their personality , leadership and work styles and how to work with others .
Retreat facilitators were Casey Claxon and Shelly Payne while Geno Swigert was the chaperone for the weekend retreat . Members of the CCYL Class of 2022 include Jaiden Arnold , Ella Baylor , Zane Bryant ,
Brooklyn Cox , Destiny Danielek and Hailey Helter from Coshocton High School ; Lily Griffith from the Coshocton Christian School ; Kayla Dulgar ,
