CRMC helping provide trainers for high school sports
By Josie Sellers
Coshocton Regional Medical Center is playing a role in helping to keep area high school athletes safe and healthy .
“ In 2019 , prior to the pandemic , we saw there was a need for athletic trainer services ,” said Kaylee Andrews , manager of business development and marketing at CRMC . “ Schools were reaching out to us when they had larger tournaments . We talked with the majority of the school districts and this year are able to provide a trainer for almost 40 hours a week to be there for practices , conditioning and games .”
CRMC has hired trainers to work with River View and Newcomerstown and is still identifying the candidate for Coshocton .
“ We found two really great ones ,” Andrews said . “ Allison Cramer is a River View graduate who wanted to return to her home school and give back to the community . Megan Devol , who

BF-00527559 graduated from Caldwell High School , is the trainer at Newcomerstown High School .”
Both Cramer and Devol graduated from Muskingum University . Devol then continued her education at the University of Akron , where she received a master ’ s degree in exercise physiology .
“ I knew I wanted to apply the knowledge I had learned over the years in athletics ,” Devol said . “ While I could not continue my own athletic career , I was excited to still be involved in athletics and help athletes excel in doing what they love and keep them healthy along the way .”
Being part of a close-knit community was important to Devol .
“ From the first time I visited the Newcomerstown area , I enjoyed the familiarity of being in a small town and appreciated the genuine relationships between the administration of Newcomerstown High School ,” she said . “ I could tell this was a school that cared for their students and employees and was something that I wanted to be part of . I am very excited to be able to help make a positive impact in the community and be a Trojan .”
Cramer is excited to be back at River View and provide the community with a service it has been without for several years .
“ As a 2016 River View graduate playing softball and volleyball , even competitive cheerleading , I didn ’ t have these services provided for me , and if I would have , I feel like it would have potentially made a difference in my overall health for athletics ,” she said .
Cramer played four years of volleyball at Muskingum , where she worked with some great athletic trainers who helped keep her healthy and taught her about taking care of herself .
“ I was able to use that in my clinical rotations ,” she said . “ Now I am hoping that coming back to my community that I can make that same difference that Muskingum University athletic trainers made for me . I am looking forward to educating and helping student-athletes become faster , stronger , tougher and able to help athletes play as long as they can . You only get one body in life , so it is best if we take care of it in the best ways that we can .”
The trainers will be overseen by CRMC medical director Dr . Brad Bernacki , along with CRMC director of outpatient therapies Todd Dawson .
“ We employ the trainers , but they will essentially be staff members of the school district ,” Andrews said . “ We felt being able to do this was important to the overall health of our kids and keeping them on the field safely . There has been a need for a long time , and I ’ m glad we were able to finally help with this .”
