Event will start of music ministry
Those interested in being part of the music program at Roscoe United Methodist Church are invited to a dinner and jam session on Thursday , Sept . 9 at 22668 Liberty Drive in Coshocton .
“ We do this every fall for anybody involved in our musical ministry ,” said Les Widder , music director at the church . “ We have a meal and usually some sort of program . We had an Amish lady come talk to us one time , The Coshoc- TONES came here and we ’ ve had several others .”
The meal will be catered by Schumaker Farms , and music will be played by the Walhonding Rube Band . Food will be
served at 6 p . m ., and the band will start at 6:45 p . m . Reservations for the meal must be made by Friday , Sept . 3 by calling Widder at 740-502-0972 .
Those interested in joining the church ’ s musical ministry team also are invited to attend the event . Choir rehearsals will start Wednesday , Sept . 15 at 7 p . m . There will be a time of singing and prayer . The choir also gathers at 10 a . m . on Sundays to prepare for the 10:30 a . m . Sunday service .
“ We haven ’ t sung together since March 2020 ,” Widder said . “ Several members of the choir have been asking when we can get back to singing . We are like a family , and I miss that fellowship . We laugh together , and sometimes we even cry together . Hopefully , we can have some sort of a normal season .”

The West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce honored June and Dan Markley for their years of service to the community . The couple has been active at the First Baptist Church for at least 75 years . Dan Markley has been a Rotary member since 1975 . Together they have written six books , been 4-H advisors for 20 years with 46 members in the club and were Coshocton County Fair board members for 11 years . They also have the local museum in West Lafayette in the Dale Gress / Terry Longsworth Auctioneer and Realtor building . Their family includes Jo Ellen ( Markley ) and Marc Gellart , Dave and Darla ( Dreher ) Markley , Tim and Kelly ( Woods ) Markley , and grandchildren , Kendall and Kate Markley , Drew and Brianne Markley , and Dana Markley .
