A positive sign of progress rolled into town Thursday evening , Sept . 8 when the long-awaited order of trusses arrived at Grace United Methodist Church .
“ It ’ s really exciting ,” Grace UMC Pastor Deb Quillen said . “ We ’ ve been waiting for this . We are moving forward and making progress .”
The church on Walnut Street suffered a devastating fire on May 20 .
“ We were told it would take about nine months to do the cleanup , but there are now just minor little things that need to be taken care of ,” Quillen said . “ When we get the trusses up , they ’ ll be able to take down the burned beams . We are months ahead of what we anticipated .”
Quillen said once they are under roof , they can start taking care of some interior work . “ There are areas that just need paint and flooring ,” she said .
The next step will be looking at preliminary drawings from the architect .
