Fair , fall , football , baseball and some chicken wings

By the time most of you have an opportunity to read this column , the 170th annual Coshocton County Fair will be winding down with maybe a stray Stromboli or pygmy goat rambling across the fairgrounds . A gorgeous Saturday certainly provided fairgoers with a great day to enjoy the fair , food and socializing with friends and family .
We need to take a moment to thank all of those that made the fair go — the senior fair board , the junior fair board , all the volunteers , organizations and businesses that contribute to the success of the Coshocton County Fair . To many , it might seem the fair “ just happens .” It surely does not . It takes a tremendous number of hours and energy to make our fair go . If you get the opportunity , please take a moment to say “ thank you ” to a senior or junior fair board member , volunteer or a business that contributes to the fair .
The Buckeyes have climbed back into the top 10 in the college football rankings — sitting at number seven — and will have the opportunity to bust into the final four playoff with a match-up with Penn State coming later this month and , of course , the showdown with TTUN in November . The schedule increases in difficulty , which should line up well with the improvement made by the team over the past couple of games .
West Coast baseball fans are surely rooting for a Dodgers wildcard win over the Cardinals , which would have them up against the divisionwinning Giants in the best of five series in the National League . The long-standing rivalry of the Yankees and
Red Sox took center stage this week with the wildcard game to “ earn ” the right to play the Tampa Bay Rays in the next round .
While there are a few newcomers to this year ’ s baseball playoffs , the teams from the past several years continue to show up : Houston , Tampa Bay , LA and others . I would like to see the Brewers against either the Yankees or Boston in the World Series . Probably won ’ t happen , but you never know .
As we move headlong into October , we can look forward with anticipation to the annual Apple Butter Stirrin ’ in Roscoe Village and the beauty of autumn in Coshocton County . As farmers begin picking corn and soybeans , let ’ s all keep an eye out for tractors and combines on the roads , and instead of being impatient about a slow-moving vehicle , let ’ s be glad we have food on our tables — thanks to our farmers . As everyone now knows , counting on our food supply to always be available is not quite what it used to be . Did anyone ever consider something like chicken

such thing as those without family in the family of God . Choosing what pleases God puts us in immediate contact with likeminded people . We find they may be older , younger , skinnier , rounder , richer , poorer , on goes the list . Everyone needs to worship something or someone . What or whom will it be ?
Many times have I walk into a church I know well , as well as those I have never seen before . Sometimes I have walked into these worship houses feeling alone and broken to pieces . But I shouldn ’ t leave that way . I come wanting to restore and experience joy . I want to know my prayers are heard . I want to know there is a place for me , just as I am , a house , his house , waiting and filled with others who know and love the Lord as do I . My offerings and sacrifices combined with others are placed on the altar of the Lord
wings would be difficult to put on the table ?
I only hope this does not have implications for Thanksgiving and turkey . Oh , those are drumsticks , not wings
— and not the ice-cream type either . Apologies for that almost scare . I really haven ’ t had that much fair food — yet .
Have a great week everyone .
in his house . We are one .
It would seem I ’ ve already begun meeting my eternal family , here on earth . No matter what church I may find myself , I am “ an exile gathered .” No matter what church you find yourself , keep an eye out for the foreigners visiting the house . Maybe they need a place to live until they get to the Kingdom on high . Whether they stay or never return again , in short order they are our friends , our brothers and sisters in Christ with whom we will share a heavenly home .
Individual churches might hold a deed to the property where they meet , but it isn ’ t really just their little club ’ s building . We want to ensure everyone feels gathered into his house . This is the truth of the Lord ’ s houses of worship .
