Apply for the 2024 lamb , wool queen

The Coshocton and Tuscarawas Lamb and Fleece Improvement Committee is now accepting applications for the 2024 Coshocton / Tuscarawas lamb and wool queen . The duties of the queen are to promote the lamb and wool industries at fairs and festivals and special events .
Contestants must be at least 14 years old as of Jan . 1 and be a resident of
Coshocton County or Tuscarawas County . Contestants must be available for a variety of appearances / events throughout the year with the primary focus of promotion of eating lamb and wearing wool . Key events include working in the lamb promotion food stand at the Ohio State Fair , supporting the Coshocton and Tuscarawas county fair junior sheep shows , promoting lamb and wool during the Fall Foliage and Farm Tour in Coshocton County , and other community agriculture-focused events in both counties .
The application is available online at coshocton . osu . edu or tuscarawas . osu . edu and also is available at both extension offices . Applications are due Wednesday , Oct . 18 , and interviews will take place

THURSDAY , OCT . 4 , 1973 Horse racing opened at the 122nd Coshocton County Fair a day late , with rains forcing harness races to be delayed . Wednesday ’ s races ran without a hitch . First and seventh heat went to Jo Zayres , owned by the Joan Newton of Frazeysburg and ridden by Bill Ogg ; second and eighth heat went to Grand Betsy , owned by the Dolick family of Coshocton and ridden by John James ; Third heat went to Adios , owned by H . Poulton Croton and ridden by T . Van Rhoden ; fourth and ninth heats went to Project Sue ; fifth and 10th heats went Little Zep , owned and driven by John H . Bently of Marion ; sixth heat went to Moon Rush , owned by William Fought and Lewis Ritchey of Millersburg and ridden by John James .
SUNDAY , OCT . 2 , 1983 The junior fair royalty has been crowned . Jackie Duncan , daughter of Don and Janet Duncan , and Larry Fry , son of Larry and Shirley Fry , were pronounced queen and king . Both River View seniors are active members of 4-H .
SATURDAY , OCT . 2 , 1993 Ahead of the 142nd Coshocton County Fair a new building will be opening to the public . The Associated Model Railroad Engineers of Coshocton have made their new home on the fairgrounds . “ We ’ re ecstatic ,” said Scott Kuhn . Previously located on Second Street , the group sought a new building after their previous one was sold . The fair board sold the land to the club four years ago , and construction on the new hall began shortly afterwards .
THURSDAY , OCT . 2 , 2003 Black Bears were sighted in Coshocton , but they weren ’ t the ones from River View . Sunday morning Jody Williams saw two of the creatures wandering around near South Lawn . The bears are owned by Basil L . Lanham . They would get out of their cage again on Tuesday . The bears are tamed , socialized , declawed , and defanged .
WEDNESDAY , OCT . 2 , 2013 The Coshocton Visitors Bureau has been honored by the Ohio Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau ’ s at their annual conference held last month . The Coshocton Visitors Bureau received five awards , two first and three second place , for individual projects . “ It is an honor to receive these awards for our marketing efforts ,” said bureau director Jan Myers .
