Clint Manns , forestry division of Stone Container , has measured one of the county ’ s historic trees with the intent to register it amongst the state ’ s largest . On the property of Gary ’ s Oden Valley Market , owned by Gary Williamson and located on SR 16 , is a Burr Oak that is said to be 300 years old , although Manns can only verify that it is at least 200 . Measuring with a circumference of 190 inches , 5 feet in diameter and standing at 104 feet tall with a 120-foot crown , the tree isn ’ t the largest in the state but is amongst them . Native to western Ohio , the largest Burr Oak on record is located near Akron and is 248 inches in circumference and is 117 feet tall with a 116-foot crown . “ The Burr Oak was probably brought in and planted by someone since it is not native to this area . I can be reasonably sure it is over 200 years old . To be sure of its age we would have to do a boring through the tree and do a core sampling ,” said Manns . Manns was also going to measure a Silver Maple near the Red See , reported by Geraldine Lahna , however it was struck by lightning and a significant portion of it was destroyed over the summer .
