Shokey ’ s is a pleasant surprise on T . R . 55

Shokey ’ s on Township Road 55 is run by Roger McGlone and Lory Shook .

Customers who stopped by Shokey ’ s on Township Road 55 by accident changed the roadside eatery ’ s business with one popular Facebook post .
“ We started out with feeding our neighbors ,” said Roger McGlone , who operates the business with Lory Shook . “ About 2 1 / 2 weeks ago , people came and put our picture on the internet . They drove by and then backed up and decided to come in and check us out .”
Neither McGlone nor Shook believed a Facebook post on an Ohio road trips page could have such an impact on their business .
“ They said it would change your life ,” Shook said . “ They put us on Facebook , and everything went wild .”

BF-00524845 and Shook opened in July , and since appearing on Facebook , they have started seeing customers from Columbus , Akron , Canton , Zanesville , Dresden , Millersburg and all over Ohio .
“ They are coming from everywhere ,” Shook said .
McGlone is the nails and hammer behind the eatery , and Shook is the cook . Shook had a restaurant at Rickenbacker and sewed patches for military personnel , which is where McGlone , a veteran , first ran into her .
“ I enjoy everything about cooking ,” Shook said . “ My cooking is different . I make everything from scratch .”

“ They are coming for my pizza too ,” Shook said . “ Those are selling like hotcakes . I make my own dough , and have a secret recipe .”
“ All her recipes are secret ,” McGlone said . “ She won ’ t even tell me .”
Shook cooks all her dishes in a former church bus they spent two years turning into a kitchen with items from auctions . Next to the bus is a covered area for people to sit , enjoy their meals and take in the eclectic decorations .

She described their place as rustic with a hometown cooking style , but McGlone has his own way of explaining Shokey ’ s .
“ It ’ s an old-fashion hillbilly stop over ,” he said .
Shokey ’ s is currently open Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 10 p . m . Thursdays feature Mexican food , and Friday ’ s special is Asian food . Cash only is accepted . Military and first responders receive a discount .
“ We are going to try to stay open year round ,” Shook said . “ We want to close in the seating area for winter , but it depends on how cold it gets .”
A special grand opening pig roast is set for Saturday , Oct . 30 from noon until the food runs out . The pig roast is $ 15 , chicken is $ 10 , hotdogs are $ 5 and hamburgers are $ 6 . The price includes the main meat dish , side dishes and dessert . Drinks are extra .
