Letter to the Editor

I am writing to you in support of the proposed tax levy ( renewal ) for the purpose of current expenses of the Coshocton County District Library . If you have not visited our library lately or if you are not on their mailing list for their newsletter , you are missing out on so many things . They are providing programs for infants through those of us old enough to qualify for senior discounts .
I love the atmosphere of the library . If you just want a quiet place to read the paper or your favorite magazine , you can do it for free at the local library . You have access to the latest books in either hard copy or on your favorite online source . There are book clubs and discussion groups for all ages . There are summer programs to keep the children of our community busy .
The list goes on and on . You need to stop by and get a copy of their newsletter or call and get on their email list and receive it right in the comfort of your home . There is nothing more enjoyable than getting your books online when it is cold and snowy outside .
Some of my favorite library memories are when I took my grandchildren for the lap sit reading programs and craft days . They loved the summer reading program , and we went every week with each grandchild going home with an arm load of books . They still are avid readers , thanks to their positive experiences at the public library . One has even worked in the library on their college campus .
I encourage you to visit our library if you have not been there recently . You will be surprised at all there is available to you . Tomma Bordenkircher

Letter to the Editor

“ The more you read , the more things you will know . The more that you learn , the more places you ’ ll go .” This quote from Dr . Suess sums up the love of learning that has been instilled in my young children . They have been gifted with the blessing and resources our local library system provides our community . Programs like Letterland , Lapsit and the summer reading program have bolstered their young lives with a love of reading that has served them well in school and in life .
My family uses the library at least once a week with my wife and youngest daughter now attending Letterland and picking up loads of books
each week to keep my first-grader and secondgrader entertained with new books . We greatly appreciate the staff ’ s kindness while my kids find books each week . ( Anyone with kids knows the selection process can be a little overwhelming .)
As a principal , I have seen the benefits of these programs with my students as well . We use the bookmobile to support students ’ love of reading in our school . Partnering with the library system and the bookmobile has given the school great
assets to help students discover the love of reading . The library has even adapted ways to reach out to students virtually through read alouds and digital e-books during the pandemic .
While I know not everyone uses the library in the same capacity , having a public library is an asset to the community in many ways . Increased hours of operation , outreach programs and expanded programming benefit a wide range of ages and demographics . Renewing the current levy would ensure these services could continue in the future . This would ensure many more families could benefit for years to come .
I think 0.5 mill is a small token of my appreciation to the library for what they have done already for my family . That would cost me about $ 20 per year as a homeowner in the county , and I think it is money well-spent .
