WEDNESDAY , OCT . 28 , 1971 World class violinist David Rubinoff will be visiting Coshocton tomorrow . Shaw-Barton ’ s president , Richard Finnegan , will be presenting him with a painting of Will Rogers . The painting of the Oklahoma born entertainer was created by Alter Baumhofer and was used by Shaw-Barton in a calendar line . Lions Club . SUNDAY , OCT . 18 , 1981
Nellie Chapel and New Castle United Methodist church continued their Friendship Acre project , but this year was a little different . Normally they plant corn on their 20 acres , but this year heavy spring rains forced them to change plans . Instead , pumpkins were the crop of choice . Expected to gross $ 1,900 , once expenses are taken out the remaining money will be sent
to CROP-CWS . SUNDAY , OCT . 20 , 1991
Four village offices are up for grabs in Conesville this election season , but no one is running for them . “ I always thought someone else would want the job and they ’ d get it ,” said Mayor Joe Balo , who has served since 1972 without filing an election petition . The mayoral seat is once again up for grabs , but once again it too is empty , which has been the case since Roy Larr in 1963 . Councilwoman Gladys Thomas was the last person to file an election petition in 1981 , and she still holds the position . The positions are simply filled by reappointment by the council once election day comes and passes without a challenger . “ To me that tells me they ’ re satisfied . If they ’ re not , then they should come forward ,” said Mayor Balo . SATURDAY , OCT . 20 , 2001
Lissa Juhnke , a fifth grader at Lincoln , will be the honorary coin toss captain at the Browns game . The honor comes from winning a drawing contest about “ what it means to be a Cleveland Browns fan .” Michelle Woody , her teacher , assigned watching the event
as “ homework ” for the rest of the class . WEDNESDAY , OCT . 19 , 2011
“ I ’ m looking forward to seeing some of my old customers ,” said Carl Thorpe . The longtime barber owned his own shop and has been a barber since he was 20-yearsold . Now he is working at Lenny ’ s Barber Shop behind the bowling alley . “ I ’ m excited to have Carl here . When he walked in the door and said he wanted to come back to Coshocton and come to work here , it was really exciting . He ’ s been in the community and had Carl ’ s Barber Shop for years and I ’ ve heard a lot of good stories about him from my current customers . I ’ m excited to have him here ; he ’ s a pleasant addition to the business . I couldn ’ t ask for someone finer to join our staff , especially with his experience and knowledge . We have two chairs , and we always say , “ Appointments are recommended , walk-ins are welcome ,” but having the two chairs now makes us more of a full service barber shop ,” said Lenny Fowler , owner of the shop .
