Two county residents will be awarded at the upcoming 47th Annual National FFA Convention . Kim Wells will receive the American Farmer Degree . Wells , a 1971 graduate of RVHS , is currently attending Otterbein College and interning for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation . All three youth recipients of the American Farmer Degree , including Wells ’ brother Lynn , have come from River View . Raymond E . Griffith , vocational agriculture instructor for RVHS , will be receiving the Honorary American Farmer Degree . Griffith has been a teacher at River View for the past 13 years and has helped his students and the school ’ s FFA program earn top marks . In total 67 students have earned the State Farmer Degree under his guidance , and the RVFFA has placed amongst the top 10 in the state for the past seven years . The honorary degree is given to non-members in recognition of their efforts .

The Lady Bears have claimed their sixth Muskingum Valley League volleyball crown . Facing Morgan in Warsaw , the Lady Bears won 15-8 , 15-1 . Marcia Baker led the team in scoring with 14 points followed by Lori Wills with seven and Cindy Gable with five . RVHS now stand 16-1 going into the final game of the season against John Glenn this Thursday .

The MVL crown has gone to the Black Bears following their 3-0 win over Tri-Valley . Wade Williamson put in two goals and Seth Howell put in one . RVHS now stands 6-6-3 overall and 6-3-1 in League .

Don Kason has announced he will leave his position as Coshocton County Community Band director after five years in the position to focus on his teaching , business and spend more time with his family . Kason has been a member of the Coshocton County Community Band for 25 years and will continue to play with it after stepping down . Kason currently serves as a faculty member at Muskingum College in New Concord where he instructs in brass instruments , jazz improvisation and directs the jazz ensemble . Additionally , he and his wife Joan run the Republic Industrial Supply Corporation . “ I made so many new friends . It was great to get the music conducting going again . But the music is a medium , a vehicle to meet all these nice people . I sure did enjoy all my friendships , and I ’ m going to keep them going ,” said Kason .

The Church of God will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a Family Fun Day on Oct . 18 . The Church of God was founded in 1954 at the home of Mr . and Mrs . Marion Grubb of Roscoe and under the pastorship of the late Wilbur McKnight . By next year they built their own building at 703 S . Second Street and have built onto it over the decades . McKnight would pass away in 1994 ; however , his wife Nadine continues to attend . On Sunday and Monday , a revival will be held under Rev . Richard Bradley of Oak Hill , West Virginia . James Childers serves as the current Senior Pastor and Jared Mitchell serves as youth and children ’ s pastor .
