Summer 2020 Highlights
We create opportunities for people to explore how science-based knowledge can improve social , economic , and environmental conditions .
AT A GLANCE
Dining with Diabetes Cooking Demonstrations aired in July and include a different diabetes-friendly recipe each episode with helpful tips like portion size , carbohydrate counting , and effects of physical activity . These recorded programs have reached over 2,500 people . Check them out on the “ OSU Extension Coshocton County ” Facebook page . OSU Extension has partnered with the Coshocton County Health Department and Coshocton Regional Medical Center to offer the Dining with Diabetes program .
Ohio 4-H Camp … ish had nearly 300 youth registered to attend in some portion of the 3-day virtual camp experience . Jenny Strickler served as co-director for one of the day ’ s programs . She also helped with the leadership of an Ohio Outdoor Explorers virtual 4-H SPIN ( Special Interest ) Club . She specifically helped teach sessions on geocaching , recognizing poisonous plants , and bees and pollinators . For the bee ' s program she connected virtually with a beekeeper from Maine , so the kids were able to virtually explore the Apiary .
Summertime in Coshocton County means David Marrison , Ag & Natural Resources Extension Educator , moves his focus from educational workshops to on-farm research projects . Despite COVID-19 restrictions , David completed weekly crop scouting as a crop report for the National Ag Statistics Service , conducted the Western Bean Cutworm and Stinkbug monitoring research projects and completed a comprehensive soybean weed survey . Thank you to Croft Farms ( Warsaw ), John Porteus ( West Lafayette ), and Heritage Vineyard Winery ( Warsaw ) for being cooperators for these research efforts .
