Celebrating 25 years of Operation Evergreen

While the calendar may not be turned to the month of December , the Ohio Christmas Tree Association is already thinking about the holiday season through its service project , Operation Evergreen . For 25 years OCTA has been shipping Christmas trees , homemade ornaments and notes to the military stationed overseas .
“ This is a great way to bring a taste of home to the military that are stationed overseas and not have the chance to be with family during the holidays ,” according to Valerie Graham , executive director of OCTA .
According to Graham , the Christmas trees will be inspected and packed for shipment the second week of November so that the trees will be overseas right after Thanksgiving .
This year OCTA is planning to ship 100 trees at a cost of $ 160 per tree , along with numerous ornaments and notes . If anyone is interested in providing ornaments , notes or a monetary donation , they can do so by emailing OCTA at val @ ohiochristmastree . org or submitting the items to the OCTA office at 6870 Licking Valley Road , Frazeysburg , OH 43822 , by Thursday , Nov . 5 .
