Judge impressed with animals

Kevin Neer was impressed with what he saw at the sheep show on Oct . 6 at the Coshocton County Junior Fair . “ What a nice class of lambs to sort through ,” he said during the show .
Neer followed that up with a compliment for the lambs and the kids during the next class . “ It ’ s another great set of lambs and a great set of kids who are doing a great job showing ,” he said .
Neer traveled to Coshocton from Champaign County to judge the show . “ Before I started judging , I was the father of two daughters , so I know the tension behind the fence and along the walls ,” he said . “ You have done a tremendous job . You never know what to expect when you come to county fairs . This one is top notch with great showmen .”
Two of those talented showmen were Aiden Brinker , who won grand champion market lamb , and Macey Mizer , who had the reserve grand champion market lamb .
“ It felt pretty good to win ,” said Mizer , who is 17 years old . “ I just got a good lamb this year .”
Mizer was 8 years old when she first started showing animals at the fair . “( Lambs ) are fun , but they take a lot of time ,” she said .
Mizer also took goats to the fair this year and won first and second place in her classes .
Like Mizer , Brinker also is a veteran of the showring . “ I ’ ve been showing for a couple of years ,” said Brinker , who is 14 . “ The experience is great .”
This was Brinker ’ s first time claiming the champion title . “ It feels great ,” he said . “ I worked hard this year .”
Brinker also brought a feeder calf to the show and said his family had a fat steer . “ I ’ m really happy and quite thankful that we got to have a fair this year ,” he said .
Neer also was happy he got to watch such great showmen during his time at the fair . “ I ’ m very happy with how well they showed ,” he said . “ Anyone

can have a great lamb , but the showmanship really takes kids knowing what they are doing .”
