Herron wins the Showman of Showmen award

Eleven competitors from area 4-H clubs and FFA chapters vied for the Showman of Showmen at the Coshocton County Junior Fair on Wednesday , Oct . 6 .
The contest pits all Supreme Showmanship winners , unless they have won the title previously , in a three-hour event with winners from the individual species

was entered into the event on Oct . 5 in the youth building at the Coshocton County Fair .
“ This was something different I could do to help my 4-H club ,” said Braidee Slaughter , Jade Dreher ’ s oldest daughter . “ I made funfetti cake pops . We make cake a lot at our house .”

Stella Dreher made pink cupcakes . The siblings all belong to the Keene Kountry Kids 4-H Club .
“ This was all of their first times doing this ,” Jade Dreher said . “ Our club asked if anyone would be interested in doing it , and they volunteered . Braidee is a project member , and the other two are Cloverbuds .”
Jade Dreher was proud of the work they put into the event . “ I tried to stay hands off as much as I could ,” she said . “ I just checked on them , and they were getting a lot of positive feedback . That makes all their hard work worth it .”
The salsa Hattie and Fletcher enjoyed was made by fellow Keen Kountry Kids member Lux Hammond .
“ My mom makes the salsa , and it ’ s pretty good ,” Hammond said . “ I did this when I was a Cloverbud and thought it was fun getting judged . If you get first , second or third , you get cooking tools .”
This-N-That 4-H Club member Callie Fechuch made fall white chocolate party mix . She quickly went
showmanship competitions . 4-H and FFA teens showed llamas , pigs , horses , goats , sheep , beef cows , dairy cows , rabbits , turkeys ( poultry ) and small animals .
Teens showing their project included Johnathan Woodward , poultry , Raising Champions ; Taryn Tumblin , llama , Trailblazers ; Hunter Cannon , horse , Active Achievers ; Allie Norman , llama and dog , Hamilton Valley Hustlers ; Layton Massie , horse and swine , Magic Makers ; Cassadee Woodward Wells , rabbit , Lucky Learner ; Brayleigh Cox , llama , Country Kids ; Riley Berger , horse and llama ; JD Herron , horse and lamb , Go Getters ; Drew Tumblin , dairy cow , River View FFA ; and Emma Ward , llama , Kamelid Kushers .
down to her last few bags as people came through the line to try everyone ’ s creations .
“ My grandma made this ,” Fechuch said . “ It ’ s been fun doing this .”
Keene Kountry Kids member Taylor Richard made Chex Mix for people to taste .
“ I like people trying my recipes ,” he said . “ The easiest part of making the Chex Mix was putting the stuff together . The hardest part was that I had to mix it every 15 minutes .”
Herron was the winner of the Showman of Showmen award . He has been in the Supreme Showmanship contest three times . He also is a member of River View FFA . At 9 years old , he won Supreme Showman with his horse and won again in his fourth year of 4-H . After that , he won Showman of Showmen with his sheep project .
Herron said , “ I was pretty excited to win but not looking forward to not being able to enter Showman of Showmen in that species anymore .”
Herron showed in horses , sheep and cattle as well . “ Those are the three categories I have won in , the Showman of Showmen competition for horse showmanship , beef showmanship and then lamb showmanship ,” he said .
