Youth are happy to showcase their animals at modified 2020 Coshocton County Junior Fair

By Jen Jones
The decision to cancel the Coshocton County Fair was not an easy one for anyone involved . Jason Massie , fair board president , said the hardest part was thinking about the youth who have worked all year to show their animals . “ We are happy to be able to have the junior fair showcase for the kids .”
While many youth are upset about the changes in the fair this year , many are trying to look on the bright side .
Alyza Fender , 11 , is a member of Ridgerunners 4-H club , and this is her third year showing hogs at the fair . “ I love animals of any kind . I like to interact with the pigs . I get them when they are little , and I like to watch them grow , and I like the extra responsibility ,” she said .
Fender said she is sad she won ’ t get to do her showmanship class . “ I think my gilt would do good ,” she said .
On a happier note , Fender said , “ I ’ m happy that I will get to take both of my pigs back home with me after the fair .”
Caleb Wright also is a member of Ridgerunners 4-H club . He has shown pigs for two years , and this is the first year he will show lambs . “ This gives me something to do . I get to spend time in the summer taking care of animals ,” he said .

for the positive . “ I think it will be better because we will only have to
miss one day of school ,” he said .
Wright ’ s sister , Adyson , is showing lambs for the second year , but she has been showing animals for eight years . “ I like 4-H because it gives me something to do and be a part of . It ’ s also a very good way to meet new people , which is sometimes hard in a small town like ours ,” she said .
Adyson Wright said she is very upset about the changes in the fair , but she is glad she will still be able to show her animal . “ But the excitement of seeing everyone I know rather than just the ones that show an animal has been taken away ,” she said .
