Warsaw Lions Club is organizing a new raffle

By Marianne Austin
The Warsaw Lions Club annual variety show has been canceled for this year due to the COVID pandemic . About 80 % of its budget stems from the show , which helps groups and organizations in the community .
“ We considered a virtual show , but with production and filming , it wouldn ’ t have been profitable ,” said Jim Williamson , raffle chairperson .
Instead , the club is requesting donations of gift cards or gift certificates from local businesses to be used in a raffle on Tuesday , Nov . 17 . Some of the prizes donated so far include a handmade red oak table ( 62 inches long by 22 inches wide ) made by Williamson , as well as certificates from the House of G . A . Fisher in Roscoe Village and
Buehler ’ s , to name a few .
The club is accepting donations valued from $ 10- $ 50 for the raffle , and raffle tickets may be purchased for $ 10 each or three for $ 25 . Raffle tickets can be purchased over the phone , in person or through the mail by sending your name , address and telephone number along with a check for the amount to Warsaw Lions Club , P . O . Box 72 , Warsaw , OH 43844 . Ticket orders must be in by Friday , Nov . 13 . For tickets or to donate , call Williamson at 740-824- 3803 and 740-502-9611 .
“ For mail-in purchases , I absolutely guarantee we will enter your ticket and information into the drawing ,” Williamson said . “ We ’ re doing pretty well so far . Thanks to the community for buying tickets . We want to thank them for their generosity . People have been really good in supporting us .”
Fighting blindness has been the primary focus of the Lions Club , which at this time still sponsors free eyescreening programs through mobile clinics , pays for cataract surgeries for underprivileged and collects eye glasses for those in need . Besides blindness , the Lions Club also sponsors programs to provide school books for children , feed the hungry , provide transportation for seniors and raise money for disaster relief .
Groups meet regularly to discuss possible opportunities to give back , and there ’ s a certain level of freedom that allows local groups to make decisions based on what their communities need .
