Church bazaar helps raise funds for holiday meal

By Josie Sellers
If you are looking for unique gifts and the chance to help others , you don ’ t want to miss the upcoming craft bazaar at New Beginnings Ministry in Warsaw .
The annual event will be held Saturday , Nov . 12 from 9 a . m . to 3 p . m . and Sunday , Nov . 13 from 1-3 p . m . Vendors will be accepted until Wednesday , Nov . 9 , and they can contact the church through its Facebook page . Cash and checks will be taken the day of the bazaar .
“ We have a couple of vendors coming like Color Street and someone who makes homemade dog treats and other things for pets ,” said Amanda Kent , who helps organize the bazaar . “ We also will have flower arrangements , wooden decor , a bake sale with lots of chocolaty treats and more . There is a big variety , whether you are doing your house in farmhouse style , more rustic or modern colors .”
The bazaar was started years ago as a way to raise funds to help others during the holidays . Kent said church members took a break for a few years and then brought it back .
“ This is our third year since we brought it back ,” Kent said . “ Funds are used for holiday needs , whether that be the community Christmas meal or other specific needs . Last year we were able to put $ 700 toward the dinner . We ’ d love to go beyond that and pay for the whole thing , whatever that will look like this year . Our refrigerator broke two days before
the dinner last year , and everything spoiled . Thankfully , we had funds from the bazaar to replace everything .”
The community Christmas meal will be held Saturday , Dec . 17 at the church .
“ We deliver the meals , or people can come to the church , where we also are set up to serve ,” Kent said . “ We aim to deliver around 11 a . m . Majority of them are delivered . We will go throughout the Coshocton area . It doesn ’ t have to be just in town . This gives us the chance to not just pass out meals , but to share prayer with people . The holidays can be a lonely time for a lot of people .”
New Beginnings Ministry has been doing its community dinner for more than 20 years . Last year they fed 260 people ,
“ We deliver the meals , or people can come to the church , where we also are set up to serve ”
but in years past they have fed 300 or more .
“ To sign up , call the church and leave a message or message the Facebook page ,” Kent said . “ We would need the number of meals , your address to deliver them to and phone number . These meals are for the elderly , shut-ins and less fortunate who could use a nice , hot meal around Christmastime .”
The meal includes ham or turkey , mashed potatoes , noodles , gravy , stuffing , a vegetable , a
roll and a cookie .
Kent ’ s whole family helps with the meal including her children , Taylin and Weston .
“ We deliver food and make people happy ,” Taylin Kent said . “ I like seeing people be happy .”
New Beginnings Ministries is located at 331 Church St . in Warsaw . The church can be reached at 740-824- 4878 . If people sign up in advance to eat at the church they can come and eat from 11 a . m . to 1 p . m . Sign ups will begin
— Amanda Kent
on Friday , Nov . 25 and go through Saturday , Dec . 10 . People can sign up by leaving a message on the church answering machine or by messaging the church ’ s Facebook page .
“ We are called to be Jesus ’ hands and feet ,” Amanda Kent said . “ This is another opportunity for us to do that and literally go into the streets or homes to touch people we normally don ’ t get to love on or pray with . It ’ s an honor to do this .”
