you ’ re all there because you love music , so have fun and enjoy it . Don ’ t be afraid to ask questions . One more thing : Cherish every moment because these moments will be the memories you will look back on .”
Fellow RHS senior Kylie Crawford said , “ I will miss the Friday night football nights , waking up extra early to perform our heavily rehearsed show we practiced for several months together and cheering on the bus when we qualified for state .”
Like Alan , Crawford encourages next year ’ s Marching Generals to never quit .
“ No matter how aggravating it can get or how rough it will be at the start , do not give up ,” Crawford said . “ Stick with it and put in your all because in the end it will pay off . And have fun . especially this year , I ’ ve had a good time teaching the younger kids how things go and having them share my excitement for competitions ,” she said . “ I ’ ll also really miss performing . I love going on the field and showing the observers how hard we ’ ve worked for our position and reputation . Our dedication and commitment really shows in how we perform , and I really value the feedback we get from the community .”
Her advice to next year ’ s marchers is to enjoy the experience .
“ Too many times I ’ ve seen people lose themselves to the craft for the sake of doing well and nothing else ,” Collinsworth said . “ Be confident in what you do . Be positive and prepared and ask for help if you need it . There ’ s no shame in being a beginner . Even our directors were in your shoes once . Make good connections and stay out of drama . Have fun .”
Thankfully , the Marching General seniors have more opportunities to make music throughout the rest of their final year at Ridgewood .
“ Band kids are band kids all year long ,” Lindig said . “ They move on to concert band , pep band , jazz band , and solo and ensemble .”
