50-Plus Expo provides information on senior programs and health By Beth Scott [email protected] COSHOCTON – WTNS hosted the annual 50-Plus Expo on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Coshocton Village Inn and Suites. Vendors that cater specifically to senior citizens’ needs were at the event giving out information about their business or organization. There was also free ice cream and popcorn as well as door prizes. One vendor at the expo was Coshocton Regional Med- ical Center who provided free blood pressure screenings and information on providers at the hospital as well as information on early signs of a heart attack and heart healthy diet recommendations. “We want to make sure that people have primary care providers, and we are working hard to provide the best care for our patients,” said Tarrah Jaras, manager of the emergency department. Anne Randles from Coshocton County Job and Family Services was also at the expo spreading awareness about elder abuse. Elder abuse affects those who are 60 years old or older and can range from physical, emotion- al, sexual, and financial abuse. Beth Scott | Beacon Dr. Don Tupper talked to seniors about foot care and proper footwear at the 50-Plus Senior Expo on Thursday, Nov. 21. 1 “I’ve come here several years, and there’s always a good turnout,” said Randles. “If you have a suspicion that someone is being abused, and all you need is a sus- picion, call and report it. You can call our office or the sheriff’s office to report abuse.” A popular stop at the expo was Dr. Don Tupper’s table where he educated people about the proper footwear they should be wearing based on the size and shape of their feet. “The biggest thing is our feet as we get older become numb naturally,” said Tupper. “You should have prop- er-fitting shoes for the foot type that people have, and it’s a hard sell because people think it doesn’t hurt, so I’m okay. Changes in your feet are not on and off. It catches up with you.” Representatives from Home Loan Financial Services were also at the expo talking to seniors about CD rates, mutual funds, stocks and bonds, and IRAs. “It’s a chance to see our county and they’re out here today,” said Nick Schmitt, financial consultant. “We want people to know that we are a community bank, and that’s why we wanted to make sure we were out here today.” B E A C O N F U N & G A M E S 2 3 7 4 8 Sudoku 9 5 6 10 11 Puzzle 1 (Easy, difficulty rating 0.41) Puzzle 1 (Easy, difficulty rating 0.41) 5 7 8 5 7 2 1 9 5 2 3 1 7 7 9 8 3 8 3 1 3 5 6 2 6 8 8 4 7 1 7 2 7 8 4 6 2 7 6 3 14 8 3 7 1 2 6 7 2 5 9 1 15 Puzzle Puzzle 2 (Easy, difficulty rating 0.45) 2 (Easy, difficulty rating 0.45) 7 4 13 7 2 7 8 8 5 5 6 7 8 12 8 3 5 9 8 4 3 7 6 2 1 1 6 2 9 3 7 9 3 5 3 6 6 1 1 1 5 7 7 9 9 5 5 1 1 3 4 4 7 1 6 9 6 7 7 9 7 3 3 7 2 2 2 7 2 6 4 6 4 Generated by http://www.opensky.ca/sudoku on Fri Nov 22 14:26:28 2019 GMT.
