NOVEMBER 17 , 1957
The Star Theater on South Sixth Street had found itself in the hands of a new owner . A Dresden man by the name of Earl Starner bought the theatre from its previous owner William Bachert . Mr . Starner also owned the Star Theater in Dresden and co-owned the Tri-Vale drive in theater in Canal Lewisville .
NOVEMBER 22 , 1967
Fullback Don Darr and halfback Tim McLane had been picked for the ‘ 67 Cardinal Conference All Star Team . CHS Principal Chester Loos was also selected president of the Cardinal Conference . The duo put on quite a performance that year with CHS ending 4-5-1 . McLane managed to run 1,297 yards and was named MVP by CHS . On top of this , he was given the Award of Merit from Sports Illustrated for his performance against Ashland .
NOVEMBER 18 , 1977
Just one minute after noon , Daniel Combs of Akron wrecked his car and in the process , severed a cranial artery . Thanks to the actions of deputy Don Carpenter who dressed the wound , the 22 year old ’ s life was saved and he was in stable condition at Coshocton Memorial Hospital . The incident happened on 541 after Combs lost control of his car and flipped it while rounding a curve .
NOVEMBER 21 , 1987
Seventy-nine year old Mary T . Smith passed away Thursday evening . She worked as a clerk at the Coshocton Municipal Court , but she was better known for a different job . Wearing badge number “ 00 ” she was the first female deputy sheriff in the county . Serving in a variety of roles in county government after graduating high school in 1925 in 1952 , she became a sheriff ’ s deputy . In addition to this role , she also served as the sheriff ’ s secretary and provided legal training to new officers . She retired from the sheriff ’ s office in 1984 .
