Changes coming for the sheriff ’ s office and the commissioners
By Josie Sellers
Voters have voiced their opinions that they are ready for a change .
In the March primary election , Jim Crawford defeated Sheriff Tim Rogers and he came back again on Nov . 3 to defeat opponent Opha Lawson Jr .
“ Words alone cannot express how truly honored I am to have earned your vote ,” Crawford said . “ Thank you . I will work tirelessly every day to build unity within our community and our law enforcement profession by earning your trust and confidence . Your voices were heard today ( Nov . 3 ). I want to continue to hear them , tomorrow and the next day , next month , next year and throughout my term . Your voice is important to me and you do not have to wait until election time to be heard .”
According to unofficial election results , Crawford won with 12,279 votes compared to Lawson ’ s 3,347 .
In addition to the voters , Crawford wanted to thank his wife Lisa , his family and friends , his treasurer Mary

shared his own thoughts with voters .
“ I want to congratulate Sheriff Elect James Crawford on his victory ,” he said . “ I want to thank all those that voted for me . I am truly blessed from all the support I received . While I may not be the sheriff , I am still a community member that wants to see things improve in the county and I will be out there working hard to make my community better . Thank you everyone for the support .”
Another area voters will see change in is the county commissioners office . The unofficial results in this race show that Rick Conkle will be replacing current commissioner D . Curtis Lee . Conkle recorded 8,238 votes and Lee had 6,638 .
“ I wish Rick all the best of luck ,” Lee said . “ I appreciate working with all the other commissioners over the last 12 years . I think we did a lot of good things in that time . I only missed 15 meetings in 12 years and two of those were to attend other meetings . I ’ m going to have to think about what ’ s next for my future .”
Conkle is excited to get started and appreciates the support of his voters .
“ Thank you voters ,” he said . “ You made a dream come true . I promise to be transparent . I will work hard to make a positive difference in the community . I look forward to working with all the other officials and departments in the community . It ’ s a hard time with the COVID virus at this time , so be as safe as you can and help others out if you can to beat this virus .”
