K-9 Henata retires , Charli joins the department

K-9 Henata celebrated seven years of service to the Coshocton County Sheriff ’ s Office during her retirement party on Nov . 1 .
“ She ’ s been a great dog to work with ,” said detective Dave Stone , Henata ’ s partner .
One of Henata ’ s characteristics is she ’ s very sensitive . “ She gets her feelings hurt easily ,” Stone said . “ If you make her mad , you have to make it up to her . She won ’ t work for about a half-hour .”
Henata is the second K-9 Stone has worked with . “ I consider this the best job here ,” he said . “ You get to watch them learn and see that transition into success .”
According to the Coshocton County Sheriff ’ s Office Facebook page , “ Henata started her career in March 2014 as a dual-purpose K-9 . She was trained in narcotics detection , tracking , evidence search and suspect apprehension .” Henata also enjoyed representing the sheriff ’ s office at events .
“ The dogs we have had
for the most part have been social ,” Stone said . “ They help us bridge the gap , especially with kids .”
Coshocton County Sheriff James Crawford said Henata is being replaced by K-9 Charli . She completed her training with Stone and started working on Oct . 12 .

The K-9 program is funded through donations and money from the Charles Bechtol Fund at the Coshocton Foundation .
“ Charli is named after Charles Bechtol ,” Crawford said . “ We will miss Henata every day but welcome Charli into the family . We look forward to great things from her .”
Stone was able to purchase Henata for a $ 1 , and she will live out her retirement with him . She also took home from her party a new dog bed from Crawford ’ s wife ’ s co-workers at Conesville Elementary School and a gift basket from Good Boy Bakery , which made her a special cake . Crawford ’ s wife Lisa made sure there were treats for the humans too .
“ I think this is amazing ,” Stone said . “ It ’ s all very nice .”
