Favorite restaurants include memories of family , friends

By Jen Jones
Coshocton has been home to many restaurants over the years , and people are always eager to share what they miss about the ones that are gone . For many , the food was delicious , but what really sticks in their minds are the memories of the fun they enjoyed with family and friends .
One of the restaurants people most often miss is Andy ’ s on the Hill . Andy McIntyre said , “ My greatgrandfather , Andy , started it . My grandfather , Andy , took it over , and then my father , Bob , and my uncle , Jim , took it over .”
Tina Brown Johnson said , “ My family ate there all the time . We loved spaghetti night . We ate there for breakfast a lot too . It was always fun to get something from the treasure box when we were done eating .”
Beth Cormack also misses Andy ’ s . “ Sunday after church — pan fried chicken , mashed potatoes ,

took the family there almost every Sunday after Mass . It was a great family time together . We also didn ’ t eat out much , so it made it extra special .”
Joan Rehrmann also went to the Mayflower after church with her family . The restaurant was on Main Street , not far from the railroad tracks .
Jennifer Payne has special
memories of the “ lower VFW ,” as her grandma , Lois Cornelius , called it .
“ The food was decent from what I recall , but more than that , I have fond memories of it because my grandma took me there all the time when I was very young . She used to let me play the jukebox , shuffleboard ( even though I was too young ), the video
games , and she would give me quarters to walk up to the bar and get a can of pop . I was a picky eater , but I loved their chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes ,” Payne said .
Another restaurant that is missed is Isaly ’ s . It was located on Main Street in part of the building now occupied by the Main Street Station .
Kathy Hendricks said , “ Dad took us to Isaly ’ s for ice-cream cones when we were little . Irene ’ s orange sherbet fell off onto Main Street once .”
Debra Groves also loved Isaly ’ s . “ They had the best homemade pies — so good — and the A & W Root Beer stand . My dad took us there as kids in the rumble seat of his 1935 Ford Roadster — good memories .”
Lori Stockon has special memories of the A & W Root Beer stand too . “ Awesome root beer , great food , family time . I can remember my dad always handing our mugs over the back seat and saying , ‘ I better take a sip so you girls don ’ t spill it .’ I used to have a baby root beer mug . My dad probably has it stored away somewhere .”
Belva Lauvray also remembers the root beer stand . “ My kids loved the foot-long hot dogs and baby root beer mugs .”
