Mayor Mills creates a new arts task force

By Tara Gracyk
The city council meeting that took place April 26 was short but informative . Mayor Mark Mills discussed the Preservation Arts Task Force he created , which includes the Coshocton Public Library , The Pomerene Center for the Arts , Our Town , some local businesses and a connection to Roscoe . According to Mills , the task force , whose goal is to preserve old buildings , held its first meeting , and it went well .
Mills also said he has talked to councilwoman Michelle Turner about heading up a committee for a bike path that would extend the bike path from County Road 1A all the way to Kids America . Mills explained it would require lots of funding and organizations coming together . Mills went on to remind residents to clean up around their properties .
“ Mow your grass . If you don ’ t , we will and charge it to your taxes ,” Mills said .
Mills said there are many unfilled positions in the city of Coshocton and in the county , and business owners are begging for employees .
Safety and service director Max Crown extended a thank you to residents and local businesses that showed up to help clean up downtown on April 17 . Crown said there was approximately 3,500 pounds of waste collected during the clean-up . Crown assured residents the city is heavy into cemetery mowing now and that the city is in the process of hiring a new fire chief .
Jeff Corder , property code investigator , cautioned citizens about the safety hazards of grass being in the streets . Grass needs to be kept out of streets so those operating motorcycles can drive safely and so the sewers do not get clogged with grass . He also reminded residents that trash containers can be set out 24 hours prior to trash pickup but not earlier than that , and trash containers need to be removed from curbs within 24 hours of pickup . In addition , he stressed the importance of stuffed furniture being wrapped or being placed in a bag if residents wish Kimble ’ s to take furniture .
Large bags for furniture can be picked up at city hall by any resident in need of a bag to cover furniture .
