Farmers market ready to start
The Coshocton County Farmers Market is scheduled to begin its season on Saturday , May 6 from 8:30 a . m . to noon .
We are excited about our transitional move to Skip ’ s Landing at 22375 County Road 1A in Coshocton and appreciate the Coshocton County commissioners offering us use of the space . Our market manager Kacie Powers has been busy working on vendor space layout , processing vendor registration forms and new signage .
Consequently , we have many new vendors interested in selling their wares at the market with 29 vendors interested in seasonal space this year . So far there are 19 vendors who have committed to setting up this coming Saturday , May 6 . Ten of them will sell a wide variety of baked goods including sourdough bread , cakes , brownies , cookies and pies . Others will sell flowers , bedding plants , maple syrup and honey .
Unfortunately , produce may be limited due to the cool weather temperatures so get there early as any produce available may sell out quickly .
As always , many local
artisans will attend with a wide variety of items from handmade wooden pens and bowls to candles , hair bows , jewelry , photos , greeting cards , toys , clothing and T-shirts . All crafts sold are made by the vendor .
Once again produce vendors will accept Women , Infant , Children Farmers Market Nutritional Program coupons for fresh locally grown produce . They also will accept Senior Farmers Market Nutritional Program coupons for fresh produce and honey . Both of these programs are funded by the United States Department of Agriculture in an effort to connect residents with local farmers and promote the consumption of locally grown produce . A little over $ 1,000 of produce and honey was bought using these coupons during the 2022 season .
Plans are in place to continue our monthly raffle drawing . Each time you make a purchase from a market vendor , you are eligible to enter the drawing . The winning ticket is drawn the morning of the last Saturday of each month . The winner then comes to the market and visits each participat-

ing vendor to collect a prize donated by the vendor .
Don ’ t be afraid to remind a vendor you need to fill out a raffle ticket when you make your purchase . Often we get busy , distracted and forget to have you fill it out .
While there may not be a lot of produce available this coming Saturday , there most certainly will be honey . So here is one of my favorite honey recipes from the National Honey Board . We are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday .
LEMON HONEY BARS Makes 12 bars 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 / 4 cup powdered sugar 3 / 4 cup butter or margarine , cut up 3 / 4 cup honey 3 eggs
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Zest from one lemon
1 / 2 teaspoon baking powder
1 / 4 teaspoon salt
In small bowl , combine flour and powdered sugar and mix well . Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs . Press mixture into lightly greased 8-by-8-inch baking pan . Bake at 350 F for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned and remove from oven .
Meanwhile , prepare filling .
In large bowl , whisk together honey and eggs . Add remaining ingredients and whisk until well blended .
Pour over baked crust . Bake at 350 F for 25-30 minutes or until filling is set . Cool completely on wire rack . Cut into bars .
