Katie Wesney was recently honored for going above and beyond in her work with the East District Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and for her role as the female representative for the state organization .
Wesney , who has been the River View High School athletic director for four years , received her Citation Award on May 14 during a program at Harrison Central High School in Cadiz .
“ I was excited ,” she said . “ I didn ’ t expect this at all .”
Wesney said the organization works closely with the Ohio High School Athletic Association to help athletic directors . It also hosts a three-day conference with different sessions and workshops .
“ It ’ s a chance to network and learn ,” Wesney said .
Wesney graduated from River View High School in 2008 and initially went to college to become an athletic trainer and play basketball .
“ My coach told me I had to pick because doing

Neither position excited Wesney , but that changed when she graduated from Mount Union in 2012 and River View ’ s then Athletic Director Rod Lindsey offered her a job as his secretary .
“ I learned a lot from him , and it was a great opportunity ,” she said . “ Mr . Rinkes and Mr . Summers were very supportive when I moved to the athletic director position .”
Wesney said being an athletic director is very time-consuming but rewarding .
“ I like when I get to see kids move on to the next stage or when a team wins a tournament game they weren ’ t predicted to win ,” she said . “ It ’ s a lot of work but fun . You have to have a good support system to do this job . I couldn ’ t do it without mine .”
