Community invited to attend concert in Canton
The Canton Symphony Orchestra , En-Rich-Ment of Stark County and Employers Health will present Gospel Joins Symphony on Saturday , June 15 at 7:30 p . m . in Umstattd Hall in Canton . It will be joint conducted by Dr . Henry Panion III and Matthew Jenkins Jaroszewicz , CSO music director designate .

Serving as choir master is Darius McBride . He hails from Rochester , New York . He attended Malone University in Canton to pursue a degree in choral / vocal music education , where he graduated in 2016 . During his time at Malone , he participated in Malone ’ s Opera Theatre under the direction of Dr . Cynthia Wolschlager , where he held numerous tenor roles .
McBride was part of the university chorale and chamber choir , where he served as student conductor from 2013-15

served as the One Voice Gospel Choir director from 2013-15 .
Aside from his work and studies at Malone , Mc- Bride is a former En-Rich- Ment instructor ( 2011-15 ) under the leadership of Betty Smith . At En-Rich- Ment , he taught choir and music theory and directed the En-Rich-Ment strings . McBride also served as music director for two community productions : “ Carrie the Musical ” and “ Heathers the Musical .”
Continuing his vocal educating , McBride has taught private piano and voice lessons at Forte Music School in Toledo . He has run successful choral programs at Kingsway Christian School and Fostoria High School and is currently the vocal music director at Westerville South
High School in Westerville , where he currently resides . He also is a director of the All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir . McBride has shared his musical talents in numerous churches in Coshocton and Tuscarawas counties .
Gospel Joins Symphony is a celebration of gospel music , focusing primarily on black gospel music and how African American culture contributed to the genre . At its core black gospel music is rooted in spirituality and faith , serving as a means of expressing devotion , hope and praise to God . Its lyrics often draw from biblical themes and narratives , offering messages of redemption , perseverance and liberation . Musically , black gospel encompasses a range of styles , blending elements of traditional African rhythms , blues , jazz and hymnody .
