1996 . It serves children age 6 weeks to 12 years old and will soon be relocating to the former Ridgewood General Store on East Main Street in West Lafayette .
“ I ’ m very excited to bring a competitive preschool to the area ,” said Hannah Moore , vice president of the Precious Treasures board .
Moore , who currently teaches at Maysville , will become the curriculum director and a pre-K teacher . She has a master ’ s degree in education and 10 years of experience in special education and kindergarten .
“ We follow the Department of Youth rules and regulations ,” Moore said . “ We do background checks and have security systems . In this ever-changing world we live in , the church didn ’ t fit our needs with compliance rules we have to follow . It just wasn ’ t the best setup for a preschool and education facility .”
The Department of Youth has checked out its new facility , and they are good to go with compliance issues . Every floor of the building will be used

Precious Treasures Learning and Child Care Center will bring some new opportunities to families in a new location .
with areas designated for infants , toddlers , preschoolers and school-age programming . There also will be indoor play areas and an all-inclusive playground outside surrounded by a 6-foot privacy fence .
Moore said they hope to expand more and are applying for grants to help with that process .
“ Our hope is that children start with us young and stay with us all the way to pre-K and eventually transition to the school district ,” she said .
Their plan is to be in the new building by the first of August and host a ribbon cutting and community day .
“ We want to transition from the mindset of a day care to an educational facility ,” Moore said . “ We are play-based , but they are going to learn through play and know the science behind what they are doing .”
Families can get a feel for what the facility offers by sending their children to Precious Treasures day camps this summer . Weekly day camps will be held from 9 a . m . to noon , and lunch is provided . Care is available after camp until 5:30 p . m . There is an extra fee for campers staying past noon . The camp cost is $ 80 . Themes are arts and crafts , Taylor Swift , Disney , fairy tales , science , and sports .
