The annual talent show, a tradition from the former Conesville Elementary School, is being carried on at River View Elementary.

“ It was a long-standing tradition at Conesville to have a talent show where the lower grades did class acts and the upper grades did individual acts,” said Michelle Beitzel, who announced the acts at this year’ s show.“ It was one of our favorite end-of-year events at Conesville.”

Last year when the district reconfigured, the staff was encouraged to bring individual building traditions with them to help crate new ones.

“ Last year we only had 50 % participation in the talent because no one really knew what to expect,” Beitzel said.“ It

was mostly Conesville teachers, and a few others, we twisted their arms to join us. This year we had 100 % in K-2.”

Students worked together with their classmates to perform song and dance routines to songs like“ Cotton Eye Joe.” A group of secondgraders even dimmed the lights and did a show with

glow sticks. The students, including some preschoolers, all had their own chance to shine as a group on May 21 at the show.“ The schedule was pretty limited this year to a Wednesday, and most of our preschools are not here on Wednesday, but hopefully next year, we can incorporate all of them as well,” Beitzel said.
