This group allows teens a safe space to express feelings through creative activities and connect with their peers to reduce feelings of isolation. The goal is to help teens understand and value their emotions with improved selfesteem and self-awareness. Creative engagement can reduce anxiety and help teens learn coping techniques to manage emotions beyond the group setting.
— Coping Cats- Problem Solving for Middle School( sixth grade through eighth grade), Wednesdays from 2-3 p. m. and facilitated by Lindsey Griffiths, QMHS.
This CBT group helps kids recognize and understand emotional and physical reactions to anxiety and develop plans for effective coping. They will learn and practice problem-solving skills and relaxation techniques.
The essential components of the Coping Cat program include psychoeducation, involving information for children and families about how anxiety can develop and be maintained and how it can be treated; exposure tasks, which give the child the chance to be in the feared situation and have a mastery experience; somatic management, which teaches relaxation techniques; and cognitive restructuring, which addresses feeling frightened, expecting bad things, attitudes and actions that will help, and
results and rewards.
— Aggression Replacement Therapy( age 12-17), Wednesdays from 4-5 p. m. and facilitated by Renee Corbett, LSW.
This group focuses on anger control and moral reasoning. Teens learn about their anger triggers and the how their anger affects others. Participants learn how to make responsible choices and develop skills to control impulses. Group discussion and activities help individuals develop empathy and understand different perspectives. It teaches individuals how to interact positively in social situations and learn how to problem-solve.
— Kindness Club- Social Skills Group( age 4-7), Thursdays from 4-5 p. m. and facilitated by Renee Fleming, LSW, and Lindsey Griffiths, QMHS.
Help your child grow socially and emotionally through the power of play. The play-based social skills group is designed to support young children in learning how to build friendships, express feelings, and solve problems in a fun, nurturing environment. Using games, imaginative play, art, movement and group activities, children practice key social skills.
Benefits include building confidence in making and keeping friends; learning to take turns, share and cooperate; understanding and expressing big feelings; developing empathy and emotional awareness; practicing problemsolving and flexible thinking; and gaining tools to manage frustration and transitions.
