CIB purchases the former Clary Brother ’ s Greenhouse
Coshocton in Bloom announced the purchase of the former Clary Brother ’ s Greenhouse on Denman Avenue . Due to the generosity of the seller , Elizabeth Clary , the property was acquired at a reasonable price with reasonable terms .
The purchase of the 2-acre property was made possible by The Coshocton Foundation , The Montgomery Foundation , the Coshocton Rotary Foundation and individual support . The property will be owned and maintained by CIB , with plans to remediate the site and build greenhouses to help facilitate the procurement and growing of plant materials .
CIB is initiating a capital campaign to complete the project , which will include two 30-by- 96-foot polycarb greenhouses and a support building . This location will be used to grow the thousands of flowers and plants for CIB ’ s various projects .
Since its inception CIB has
grown from 32 hanging baskets around Main Street to more than 500 baskets and containers planted and maintained year round . This year 60 planters have been placed in Roscoe Village and 50 surround baskets on the bridge entering Coshocton . CIB ’ s steady growth has necessitated the growing of its own plant material .
CIB does not intend to sell retail product . However , to support its efforts , the group may grow and sell wholesale product or product that may be used for fundraisers . CIB would like to add an educational component to what it does and partner with interested individuals or organizations .
CIB promotes community-wide beautification through education and community involvement by encouraging the use of flowers , plants , trees , and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements . The group envisions Coshocton as a welcoming and vibrant place to
live , work and play — benefiting from colorful plants and trees , enjoying clean environments , celebrating heritage , and planting pride through volunteerism .
CIB has been recognized and awarded the top prize for floral displays by American in Bloom in a competition that included cities of all sizes . This capital project is evidence of the positive impact CIB has had on this community and the board ’ s confidence in the continuing growth and potential of Coshocton .
