THURSDAY , MAY 13 , 1971 Jim Carroll , chairman of the chamber of commerce public relations committee , has announced the winner of the city flag contest . Karen Uher ’ s entry was selected and will be submitted for possible adoption as Coshocton ’ s flag . Uher of Fresno Route 2 received a $ 100 prize for her entry .
WEDNESDAY , MAY 13 , 1981 River View has announced its commencement speaker . Dr . Donald Knox will speak at the ceremonies on May 24 . Dr . Knox is professor of applied behavior sciences and educational leadership at Ohio University ’ s Athens branch , where he has been a professor since 1970 . Previously he worked for 10 years in the public school system . In 1966 he worked in South Vietnam to establish Ohio University in the country and to help develop the country ’ s university and high school curriculums .
THURSDAY , MAY 16 , 1991 CHS has honored its spring athletes . In track Phetsamay Soungpradith , Andre Robinson and B . J . Watson received MVP awards for the boys ’ team and Samantha Summers , Dawn Ogle and Heather Davis received MVP awards for the girls ’ team . In baseball Brad Holderbaum , Tony Jones and Sean McGlone received awards . The softball team ’ s Katina Davis , Amy George , Jenny Rush and Katina Wilson received awards . Tennis team awards went to Kirby Hasseman and the doubles teams of Matt McConnell and Jason Manning ; Dan Flack and Dicky Wrather .
SUNDAY , MAY 13 , 2001 Echoing Hills was packed Friday when Ruth Graham McIntyre came to speak . The daughter of famed televangelist Billy Graham spoke on a number of matters to a crowd of over 500 women , which included the staff of Coshocton ’ s Good News Bookstore . “ I ’ ve never been to this part of the country . I am just amazed that all of you all have appeared from nowhere ,” said Graham-McIntyre . “ The whole evening was unique . That many women of different ages ,” commented Joyce Patterson , employee of the Good News Bookstore . The event is part of Encounter 2001 , which doesn ’ t begin in full until Aug . 5 .
WEDNESDAY , MAY 18 , 2011 Heavy rain closed out this year ’ s Relay for Life . “ Rocking for a Cure ,” proved a success , despite the weather , raising $ 140,000 for cancer research . This year saw a 5k ’ s inclusion for the first time in the history of the Coshocton Relay . “ This is our first year for a 5k at Relay . We had a great turnout and the rain held off just long enough to get it started . We had all ages participate . We figured this event would be a new crowd of people and expose a new audience to the awesomeness of Relay ,” said coordinator Jessie Tubbs .
