Dogwood lunches celebrate youth arts
By Josie Sellers josie @ coshoctoncountybeacon . com
COSHOCTON – The Dogwoods weren ’ t blooming during this year ’ s celebration of youth arts , but there were still plenty of young people ready to share their talents .
A staple of the Dogwood Youth Arts Celebration every May is lunches and music on the court square . This year ’ s concerts were held May 8-12 and featured performances by Ridgewood and Newcomerstown Children ’ s Choir Fourth – Sixth Grade , Ridgewood High School Jazz Band and Dynamic Chorale , River View Jazz Band and the Caribbean Drum and Certified Gold ensembles , Coshocton High School Jazz Band and Mr . Eric .
“ These youth have worked hard all year and we love having them come out in the community , in the center of Coshocton County to perform for all of you ,” said Anne Cornell from the Pomerene Center
for the Arts , which organized activities for the celebration .
River View High School senior Daniel Cullison has enjoyed being part of Dogwood activities over the years .
“ You get out of school to come here , but you also get to come to the middle of the county and play music ,” he said .
Cullison is part of River View ’ s Caribbean Drum Ensemble and helped entertain the crowd on May 10 .
“ This is a pretty laid back group ,” he said about the ensemble . “ You get to learn about the steel drum too , which is a different instrument from what you would normally work with . It ’ s a lot of fun .”
Kayana Martin , another River View senior in the Caribbean Drum Ensemble , agreed that it ’ s fun to bring this group ’ s music to the Dogwood events .
“ This is a laid back group that ’ s a lot of fun to play in , plus who doesn ’ t love music ,” she said .
