MAY 17, 2017 THE BEACON 13 Fresh and local tastes at Coshocton Farmers Market COSHOCTON - May is the month of fresh spring tastes at Coshocton Farmers Mar- ket on Main Street. Shoppers welcome the flavor of fresh lettuce and tender greens from the garden, subtly sweet asparagus, and tart, tangy rhubarb. Produce seen at the market so far also includes green onions, leeks, fresh mint and other herbs. Next month, strawber- ries, garlic scapes, and peas will make their appearance at vendors’ booths. In the meantime, shoppers can find seed- lings for their home gardens - tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, peppers, herbs, and more. Other delicious tastes at the market in- clude homemade baked goods and candy, fresh-popped flavored popcorn, home- made jam, local honey and maple syrup. Pastured meats and fresh eggs round out the offerings for your table. There are flowering plants at the market, too - hanging baskets, bedding plants, and perennials for sun or shade. And crafters offer unique gifts for that special someone. Shopping at the market is a community experience, with neighbors buying and selling the freshest tastes. With the abundance of greens this time of year, it’s time to try a flavorful salad dressing recipe. This one comes from “Taste of Home” magazine. Cracked Pepper Salad Dressing 2 cups mayonnaise 1/4 cup water 1/4 cup milk 1/4 cup buttermilk 2 tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese 1 tbsp. coarsely ground pepper 2 tsp. finely chopped green onion 1 tsp. lemon juice 1/2 tsp. garlic salt 1/2 tsp. garlic powder In a small bowl, whisk all ingredients until blended. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour. May be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Yield: 2½ cups. The Coshocton Farmers Market is open 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays, from May through October, on the 300 block of Main Street, Coshocton.
