Ribbon cutting held at canoe livery on Pine Street
By Marianne Austin The Beacon
Coshocton Mayor Mark Mills was excited for the ribbon cutting on May 7 for the Roscoe Village Canoe Livery at the Boathouse Tavern on 51 Pine St. in Coshocton.
“ It’ s great to see a business come in that is going to utilize our rivers for tourism,” he said.“ For years we haven’ t been able to rent anything for the river, so this will be big. People are going to be able to be on the river all day and then come here and enjoy drinks and the food. This is going to be good. It will be like no other venue.”
Owners Jeffrey and Anthony Peterson are bringing new life to the rivers in the county.
“ Obviously, we have three rivers: the Walhonding, the Tuscarawas and the Muskingum,” Jeffrey Peterson said.“ People live around here and not many utilize the rivers, and I am going to bring the rivers to life. What a great venue here and to be out on this beautiful river. This is going to bring tens of thousands of people

here. It’ s going to stimulate tourism, the hotels, and the shops will be busy. We are going to bring a whole new demographic of people to Coshocton, which is going to be fantastic.”
“ We have 80 Old Town Kayaks and 50 Old Town Canoes, all brand new, and 100 brand-new inner tubes,” Anthony Peterson said.“ They’ re not your grandpa’ s inner tube. They have handles, a trampoline bottom and high-powered magnets for your beverages. They are really nice. Today is the ribbon cutting, and we open on the 22nd of May. Jeffery and I both know the river, and we are both certified scuba divers. No one in the state of Ohio has anything like this.
“ Halfway down the float, you may see an eagle. We have an eagle’ s nest. It wasn’ t here last year, but about 20 minutes down the float, there is a ginormous eagle’ s nest with two eagles and eaglets in there too. You can check in here at the Boathouse Restaurant, float beyond Canal Lewisville, and one of the buses will bring you back. It’ s all fun, and it’ s a beautiful float. We provide everything. The only thing you need is yourself, your wife and your kids. You might recognize some local faces here. Ginger Balo will be working the check-in desk.”
“ Congratulations, we are super-excited for this expansion,” said Amy Crown, director of the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce.“ It just ties in so beautifully with the restaurant upstairs, the deck, and how you can have a cocktail or an appetizer and then jump into the tubes or a kayak.”
Mills said he’ s been dreaming about Coshocton having a business like this.
“ Jeffrey rolled into town on his Indian motorbike and took a chance, not only on this business, but on Coshocton. Whether you’ re on an Indian, a Harley, a Honda or whatever vessel you are bringing to us, the doors are open here for business. I am personally very happy to see this opportunity within our community. Thank you,”

Mills said.
“ Thank you so much for bringing two of my favorite things together, and that is great food and also the water,” Tiffany Swigert from the Coshocton Port Authority said.“ At our office we love to kayak. We feel like the Muskingum River and our other two rivers are so underutilized. You are bringing this possibility to more people in our community and visitors, so we are super-excited about the tourism potential here. We really look forward to what you are doing here and thank you.”
Crown offered a champagne toast to the new business.
