Here are some tips from WIC for feeding your baby

I ’ m Brittany Taylor , WIC health professional with Coshocton County WIC . Today I wanted to cover some tips for mothers and fathers about feeding your baby , based on information and recommendations from Ohio WIC and Ohio Department of Health .
During the first year of life , it is important to watch the baby , not the clock . Even though babies cannot talk , they can tell us with signs when they are hungry and full .
Signs your baby is hungry may include smacking lips , sucking or fussy sounds ; bringing one or both hands to their mouth ; moving their head from side to side ; clenching fingers or making a tight fist over their chest or tummy ; and making faces like they are going to cry .
Often crying does not mean your baby is hungry . Crying might mean they need a diaper change or to be held and cuddled . It ’ s hard to feed a crying baby . Watch for the hunger signs your baby gives to feed before baby starts crying .
Some signs your baby is full include stops sucking or spits out food , falls asleep , plays or bites rather than sucking , pushes away or turns head away , and closes their mouth or refuses feeding .
So remember to be flexible and watch baby because baby knows how much is enough . And trust their signals .
