Moms offer advice to help and simplify life

By Josie Sellers
Being a mom can be one of the most rewarding and challenging jobs . How you feel you ’ re doing can change from day to day or even hour to hour . You can go from feeling like you are rocking it to wanting to hide in the bathroom from your little people in a matter of minutes .
Here are some tips from other moms and grandmas to help buy a little time and make crazy schedules run smoother .
“ When the kids were younger , I had a plastic five-drawer container in each of the kids rooms and would put clothes for each day in there ,” Heather Stoffer said . “ It was labeled Monday to Friday — no questions of what to wear each day , worked out great , even helped my husband if I was traveling for work that week .”
Here is another tip for mornings from Nichole Braxton .
“ If we have to be somewhere early in the morning , I always predress the kids the night before ,” she said . “ Sunday mornings go a whole lot smoother now .”
If you are a softball or baseball mom , use this tip from Susan Brinker .
“ Scotch guard white baseball / softball pants before wearing ,” she said . “ It helps prevent stains .”
In the winter try this idea before sending kids out to play in the snow .
“ I bought tube socks , cut the end off for fingers and a hole out of the side for the thumb ,” Rebecca Armstrong said . “ They would put these on before suiting up to go outside — no more snow down their sleeves or gloves .”
Dawn White said this idea helps prevent little fingers from getting shut in doors .

small sections then cut through one side ,” she said . “ Put them on the tops of doors .”
At a recent birthday party , White also made scooping ice cream for guests very simple . Place scoops in cupcake liners , put them in a container and then freeze them . When it comes time for cake and ice cream , take the container out and a scoop will be ready for everyone .
For those who travel with their kids , Stoffer suggests putting a shower caddy in the car to keep things like crayons or tiny activity books organized . She also puts a small Kleenex pack in the caddy and carries a blanket , towel , umbrella and jacket in the trunk of the car .
“ They can be life savers ,” Stoffer said . “ You never know when you ’ ll need them .”

“ I just started this , and I ’ m loving it ,” she said . “ When my daughter gets in the front seat , I just set it in the back .”
Aja Brandon said during the potty-training phase with two little ones , they kept a small basic potty chair in the van .
“ It was super useful for not only potty training while out and about , but especially during COVID ,” she said .
Elizabeth J . Herrell shared this grandma hack .
“ I keep an ice cream bucket with lid and lined with a plastic bag for car sick grandkids ,” she said .
Shanna Patterson keeps fidget toys in her purse and vehicle .
“ I switch them out often to keep the surprise level up ,” she said . “ This helps greatly with overactive or bored kiddos that are tired of being cooped up all day — perfect for the table at a restaurant
