FFA Food Fight winner declared

On March 8 Ridgewood FFA was declared the winner of the 2025 FFA Food Fight . Together , Ridgewood and River View FFA brought in 2,370 pounds of food and $ 1,025.10 , all supporting the local food pantries .
State grant can enhance school safety
State Rep . Kevin Miller ( R-Newark ) announced a newly created grant awarded through the Ohio Attorney General ’ s Office to help Ohio schools enhance security .
The grant can be used for a range of security
BF-285086 purposes including training and education on threat detection and prevention and tools , technologies and equipment designed to save lives and improve crisis response .
“ Security is critical to ensure students have a stable environment to advance their education ,” Miller said . “ This grant will help give schools the tools they need to provide that secure , safe and stable environment for our students .” The grant funding is intended to provide school

The American Legion is celebrating its 56th year , and Post 65 will be participating . “ Be Counted Again for America ” is theme for the event . According to Commander Robert J . Strain “ All veterans have taken that step forward to be counted for their country . Through their membership in the American Legion , they have an opportunity to be ‘ Be Counted Again For America ’ through the many and varied service programs of the legion .” The event will see special recognition for past officers of Post 65 as well as the county ’ s remaining World War I veterans . World War II veteran Arthur Euler , who currently serves on the Alternate National Executive Committee , will be the guest speaker .

The Cancer Crusade will be headed by Bob Bigrigg and Fred A . Williams . The Cancer Crusade will be kicked off by a Daffodil Sale on March 22 at the Coshocton Sportsmen ’ s Club in coordination with the Coshocton Jaycee Women , headed my chairwoman , Jackie Neal . Bob Bigrigg is in his fifth-year volunteering for the Coshocton chapter of the American Cancer Society and is current manager of Warsaw ’ s branch of Bank One . Fred A . Williams is a fresh volunteer for the Cancer Crusade . He works as manager of human resources at Edmont .

The Girl Scouts are turning 83 years-old , and Coshocton ’ s Troops will be participating in the national campaign , “ Be Your Best !” The effort will see scouts volunteer with Goodwill to gather clothing , appliances and other needed items . Coshocton ’ s efforts will be speared by Lois Michael , whom has been involved with the Girl Scouts for 16 years . “ We are a growing , changing program just as our world is a growing , changing world ,” Michael said regarding recent changes to the programs being offered by the organization . “ In order to really be back on top again we ’ ll have to start offering things like space programming and different types of camps than what we currently offer . I think that will come , but it will take some time .”

Pillar of the community and businessman , Robert T . “ Bob ” Dawson has passed away . Born in 1917 he would graduate from CHS in 1935 and then work underneath his late father , Arthur E . Dawson , at the Dawson Funeral Home until 1970 when he took over the business . Robert and his son , R . Stephen Dawson , would run the home until 1981 when the business was sold to the Given family . An active member of the community , he was involved with both the Coshocton Masonic Lodge , Shrine Club and Aladdin Shrine Club of which he served as trustee emeritus of the Aladdin Crippled Children ’ s Hospital board . Additionally , he was involved with the Coshocton Sesquicentennial Celebration ( 1811-1961 ) and member of the Conesville United Methodist Church . “ He cared about the public and was a helping and kind person ,” said Stephen . “ He was a mentor . I learned a lot from that man .”

“ I love watching families come in here and be able to get something like an Under Armour shirt for $ 5 . It ’ s nice to see them happy and excited ,” said Mom ’ s Boutique owner Lynn Slack . Mom ’ s Boutique recently opened in the Downtowner Plaza and will soon host a grand opening on the 14th . Slack , who also owns a store in Dresden , said “ I lived here in Coshocton for several years as a teen and wanted to give something back to the area and this is my way of doing that .”
