I took care of a lady who gave herself daily injections of one of her medicines , and then she threw the uncapped needle in a small bedside trash can . When I questioned the safety of the needle disposal , she responded by saying , “ It ’ s OK . The only one who touches the bag is my daughter .”
What about the person who picks up the trash at the curb ? She was unaware of who may touch the bag after it left her door . The next day I took a clean , empty half-gallon bleach bottle with her name and the words discarded needles clearly printed on it .
