Head Start holds an end-of-year celebration

Coshocton Head Start hosted its end-of-year celebration at the Coshocton Fairgrounds on May 23 .
“ Today we are having our end-of-the-year celebration combined with recruitment and community partnership ,” said Amber Manbeck , Coshocton enrollment , family and community partnership manager . “ We are opening this up , not only for our enrolled Head Start children age 0-5 years old , but also for community . We want everyone to really see what Head Start is and what we
do . Each teacher from the classroom is providing activities and giveaways . We also have an enrollment table so if kids aren ’ t enrolled in the program , they can sign up today .
“ We have community partners including the career center , OSU , Job & Family Services , Care Source as a Medicaid service , the public health department , and maternal and WIC . WIC is loading cards today and refilling cards for anyone interested . If families are not signed up for these free programs , they can sign up today . We have a fun photo booth set up where families can even get a photo with kids in their cap and gown if they are graduating and want a graduation photo . We have some props . We have face painting , and Moving Mountains

Emily Schmalzried said her Moving Mountains Ranch is a 501 ( c )( 3 ) and does animal assistance services .
“ We have a couple different programs we work with including the River View Building Our Bears program this year . We work in conjunction with mental health services and do equine-assisted learning ,” she said . “ Today we are doing community service . We are just here to help . This is our first year , and the kids are enjoying the animals .”
Jessica Carter , Early Head Start teacher , was helping the kids learn to build sand castles . “ We are working on dumping and forming .”
Care Source was handing out activity books , hand wipes and clips to use for things like attaching a diaper bag to a stroller or wagon .
“ They are very handy ,” said Abbie Corder , marketing representative with Care Source . She also shared information about Medicaid and all their available programs .
Keelie Williams from the library provided information about the Summer Reading Program and handed out sticker sheets . “ There is a lot of fun stuff going on this summer at the library ,” she said .
Head Start programs support children ’ s growth and development in a positive learning environment through a variety of services .
