Family-owned business rebrands as Hahn Oil Inc .
By Josie Sellers For The Beacon
The Hahn family has helped keep the community on the move since 1935 .
The gas station pumps haven ’ t always carried their name over the years , but the family recently made the decision to rebrand as Hahn Oil Inc .
The family started in the business when Jesse Hahn was hired to manage the Gulf Service Station , which once stood at 25 Sixth and Walnut streets in
Coshocton . He managed that station until 1955 when he decided to build a bulk plant and become a distributor of Gulf products .
That plant , built where Hahn Oil now stands on state Route 621 , opened for business on Aug . 16 , 1955 . It had a small metal warehouse and an attached office . There were four 12,000-gallon storage tanks with a loading dock and a single small tank truck .
“ They just kept getting busier and busier and decided to expand and grow ,” said Dave Hahn , Jesse ’ s son and the second generation of the family to be involved in the business .
In the early 1960s , another section of metal warehouse was added . A large garage was built for storage of three tank trucks in operation . Later he also
added service station pumps for selling diesel fuel and gasoline to the public .
Another construction project occurred in 1978 when an old office and warehouse was torn down to make room for the new offices and warehouse .
On Jan . 3 , 1983 , Jesse Hahn incorporated , and the business became known as Hahn Oil Inc . In 1992 they switched from Gulf to Citgo and then in 1994 expanded with a convenient store and retail pumps , now known as Hahn ’ s Quik Mart .
Valero Signs went up in 2007 , and in April 2015 , they were branded Sunoco . Today they are back to Hahn Oil Inc .
“ We feel that ’ s what we are known as , and it ’ s the brand my dad started ,” Dave Hahn said .
Joining him in the business over the years have
been his sister and brotherin-law , nephew , and his children Crystal and Matthew .
“ We all work well together and get along ,” Dave Hahn said . “ The people you work with make a difference , and we have it set up for the kids to take over .”
Dave Hahn started at the station young , and so did his children .
Matthew Hahn said , “ I enjoy being part of the family business .”
“ I grew up around it , and I like it ,” Crystal said .
She is thankful for the community support , especially during this recent transition . “ We couldn ’ t be where we are without them ,” she said .
Dave Hahn said he has enjoyed serving the community over the years .
“ I like helping people ,” he said . “ We try to bid
the schools prices they can afford . The emergency squads , the fire department , they all come here for fuel . We try to help everybody around .”
Dave Hahn is glad his children want to continue serving the community . “ I tell them both they grew up around the business , so they have to set an example to the other employees ,” he said .
Hahn Oil Inc . and Quik Mart at 23089 County Road 621 in Coshocton offers gas station services , fuel delivery and wholesale oil . The gas station is open 24 hours a day , 365 days a year . There are 22 employees in addition to the family members who work for the business .
“ We ’ ve had good help over the years ,” Dave Hahn said . “ You ’ ve got to have good people to run a business .”
