Coshocton Public Health District will present Coffee with a Doc at the Coshocton County Community Room on Friday , June 14 from 5-6 p . m ., featuring certified nurse practitioner Jamie Butler as the guest speaker . The event topic for June is mental

health . Parking is available in front of the health district ’ s main entrance . This event is free , and there will be free coffee and treats during the discussion .
Butler , CNP , obtained her STNA from Buckeye Career Center during high school . She began working at Coshocton Regional Medical Center in 2002 and soon transitioned to RN in 2007 . She left the hospital setting to pursue family practice in Dover after obtaining her nurse practitioner
license from Malone University in 2017 . Butler is now back in Coshocton and is offering services through Coshocton Behavioral Health Choices .
One purpose of the event is to gain insight into what is needed by the adult population in Coshocton County .

Rev . John E . Young will be ordained this Saturday at Sacred Heart . Bishop Edward J . Hermann , head of the Diocese of Columbus which Coshocton is a part of , will be performing the ceremony . A member of both the Servants of Christ Jesus and Congregation of the Priests and Brothers of the Sacred Heart , Rev . Young graduated from CHS in 1957 and is the son of Raymond and the late Mary Kinney Young . He will conduct his first mass at Sacred Heart this Sunday . He currently serves as deacon of St . Matthias in Chicago over the summer , and afterwards he will be assigned to the Divine Heart Seminary in Donaldson , Indiana .

“ It ’ s really been fun ,” said Mable Sharples , who is retiring following some 32 years with Shaw-Barton . A receptionist at Shaw-Barton , Sharples began working for the company following a tour of its facilities she did as part of her other job as a home-economist . Impressed with the company she decided to apply despite having no prior office experience , which her husband local real estate broker Dale Sharples bet $ 100 would cause them to reject her . Dale made good on his bet when she was hired a week later . “ A company is only as good as the people who work for it . And I believe that this is the best company in the United States , because we have the best people ,” said Mable .

RVHS senior Megan Stevens has finished 13th in the State Division II girls 800 meter run and set a school record of 2:42.0 in the process . “ She ’ s earned everything ’ s she gotten . She ’ s a quality person and I ’ m happy to see things work out for her ,” said Black Bear Coach Ron Vipperman .

“ I ’ ve told myself for years that I would know when the time was right . I want to make sure I quit when I was on the top of my game ,” said former mayor Thomas Leech regarding his retirement from the Leech , Scherbel and Peddicord , Ltd . law firm . At 86 years old Leech has been practicing law for 58 of them . Graduating from CHS in 1936 he would attend Miami University and then Harvard Law before serving in the Pacific Theater in WWII . He would briefly have a solo-practice before joining the law firm he ’ s now retiring from . In 1958 he would serve a single term as mayor of Coshocton , but public service has marked his career as he also served as city solicitor and assistant prosecuting attorney . Leech plans to continue being active in the community following his retirement . He is a charter member of both the Coshocton Jaycees and Community Band and is additionally a 55-year member of the Kiwanis Club . He is also a longtime member of the Walhonding Rube Band .

“ They are wonderful people . It ’ s all volunteer work and they give prizes - it ’ s just a wonderful event and a beautiful day ,” said Mike Arnett of Zanesville about the Brittany 5k for Williams Syndrome . Now in the ninth year , the annual fundraiser was held on May 31st at Lake Park . Organized by Nanci Rogers , mother to the event ’ s namesake , the fundraiser goes to The Williams Syndrome Association that seeks to educate , research and support those with the genetic disorder that is linked to several health problems including facial abnormalities , heart disease and developmental disabilities . The event draws not only locals but people further afield , including Arnett whose son Brian has the syndrome , to the charity event . “ It ’ s a wonderful experience to see all the support of the community coming out for such a great cause ,” said Rogers .
