The West Lafayette Rotary has voted to close. Once a very active club, it has succumbed to the end that many service clubs are experiencing: lack of interest to younger members and being unable to attract them.
The group would have celebrated 75 years of doing many community service projects benefiting the West Lafayette area.
Some of the many projects the club accomplished over the years are the pavilion at the West Lafayette Library, six dugouts and a food stand for the Water Street ballpark, a student bus shelter at River Glenn Estates Mobile

Home Park, flowerpots on West Lafayette Main Street, the community flag projects, and college scholarships every year for Ridgewood students. For many years the group also sponsored health screenings for the community.
The West Lafayette Rotary Club’ s last project was replacing the roof on the shelter at Burt Park, which was completed recently. It was done by Sonnet Greenhouse and volunteers from the local Amish community. This shelter was erected in 1997 solely by Rotary members. The last two members who participated in this endeavor were Bob Nelson and Ed Chapdelaine.

The Rotary meeting room at 316 Main St. was turned over to the West Lafayette Historical Society LLC, which is dedicated to local history and celebrating West Lafayette as the Enamelware Capitol of the world. Moore Enameling and Jones Metal were the leading industries of West Lafayette. They are now cataloging the many items that have been donated so far.
If interested in donating enamelware or local items, call Christy Patterson at 740-502-2481 or Bob Nelson at 740-622- 1922. Volunteers also are welcome. The museum was originally started by Dale Gress and Dan and June Markley.
