Brownfield Grant funds are coming
State Rep . Kevin Miller ( R-Newark ) issued the following statement after an announcement by Gov . Mike DeWine and Lt . Gov . Jon Husted of $ 192 million in grants as part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program including $ 967,212 in funding for Coshocton County . The funding is part of $ 350 million lawmakers included in the state budget last year for brownfield remediation .
“ It is encouraging to see Coshocton County receive state
dollars to conduct a remediation project in our area ,” Miller said . “ This funding will help to clean up the Coshocton County Justice Center property , leaving the surrounding area safer and capable for redevelopment .”
The following project was approved : $ 967,212 for the Coshocton County Justice Center .
This site once manufactured kitchen enamelware for both the Spellacy and Raff Company and the Beach Enamel Company and later manufactured structural metals for the Steel Ceilings Company . The 93,000-square-foot building was in operation from the early 1900s until 2004 and was demolished in 2014 . Cleanup of the site includes removal of contaminated soil , groundwater remediation and hazardous waste remediation . After cleanup , the site will be redeveloped into the Coshocton County Justice Center .
