File | Beacon Take a trip into yesteryear with a ride on the canal boat COSHOCTON – Take a journey back into the 1800s when Roscoe Village was a bustling canal town with a ride on the horse-drawn Monticello III canal boat. This peaceful 45-minute float down a restored section of the Ohio Erie Canal is powered only by two draft horses and a knowledgeable boat captain who will entertain you with stories of long-ago and interesting canal facts. Ride times are now through Sept. 3 Tuesdays through Fridays at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will feature an additional ride at 4 p.m. Sept. 4 through Oct. 22 hours are Satur- day and Sunday at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. The canal boat will be closed Thursday, Sept. 28 through Friday, Oct. 6 for the Coshocton County Fair. Special dates for additional rides include July 1 – 5 with rides at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 20 through Sun- day, Oct. 22 with rides at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. A trolley from the Apple Butter Stirrin’ Festival will be available at Roscoe Visitor’s Center. The boat will not run during thunder- storms or high winds. Call ahead during questionable weather to see if the canal boat is running or not. Leashed pets are welcome. Veterans can ride for free with valid ID. Wearing insect repellent on the boat is rec- ommended. Charters for groups are available by calling Roscoe Village at 800-877-1830. The canal boat is located across the street from Lake Park, 23253 SR 83N, Coshocton. Entertainment for July 20 is still being determined, but the fun on July 27 will be provided by The Wayfarers.
