June 10, 2020 Try a natural remedy for e By Marianne Austin Many people still rely on home remedies (sometimes referred to as a granny cure) as a treatment to cure a disease or ailment using only natural ingredients. Edmond Heillegass, originally from Tiverton, has a natural cure for eczema he has used successfully for family and friends. Eczema is a condition where patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, red, cracked and rough. Blisters may sometimes occur. “I know how to make a cure for eczema that I want to share to help others. I have used it for years, and it works,” Heillegass said. “I got married in 1947, and my wife had eczema bad on both hands that she couldn’t get rid of. An older lady told her, ‘Well, I have a cure for it.’ I made it right away. She began rubbing it onto her skin, and the eczema was gone in five days. I know a nurse here that made it for her three little kids. I tell everyone about it.” Heillegass explained how to make it. “Take a branch from an elderberry bush, peel off the bark and throw it away. The green skin underneath is what you want. Scrape it off and fry it in unsalted lard until crisp and then strain it and let it set. It will turn into a light-green salve.
