NHS graduate wins scholarship
Rhylee Shepherd of Newcomerstown was announced as the winner of the Larry F Ball Memorial Scholarship as she gets ready to attend Kent State Tuscarawas in the fall with a major in early education .
Shepherd will receive the $ 4,000 award that will go directly to her college account to aid in tuition , books , and / or school fees .
She was chosen out of hundreds of applicants in Ohio and the scholarship committee was really impressed with her “ Know your Worth ” campaign , which was her senior project at Newcomerstown High School to raise awareness for teen dating violence .
As part of her campaign she spoke to her church youth group , she made posters on red flags of abuse in dating relationships which were displayed at the high school from February through the end of the year . February was her campaign

For more news ... log on to month - as it is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month ( TDVAM ). She made a video and spoke on her own personal experience with being in an abusive relationship at the age of 16 which lasted a year before she was able to get help and get out of a bad situation .
She had bracelets made with the “ Know your Worth ” phrase and donated all the money to a local domestic violence shelter .
She ran a social media campaign on her personal Instagram and she also created a page on Facebook called Know your Worth where she posted information .
She plans to continue her awareness campaign with Domestic Violence awareness month in October and in February for Teen Dating Violence Awareness month and has plans to raise more money for domestic violence shelters in Coshocton and Tuscarawas counties .
