River View Community Park Social getting back to normal

Good food , good conversation with friends , games and entertainment , a summer weekend of outdoor fun — what could be better ?
The 55th annual River View Community Park Social and Chicken Barbecue is back this year on Friday , July 30 and Sunday , Aug . 1 .
There will be bingo on Friday from 6-9 p . m . under the large shelter . The cost is 25 cents a card and occasionally a dollar , depending on cash payouts and jackpots .
A pool party for the kids will be from 8-10 p . m . for swimming under the lights at the pool . Fifty-five dollars in coins will be tossed into the pool so kids can dive and find them .
“ The main thing is we are going to get back to normal this year ,” Jesse Fischer said . “ Last year we just had drive-thru food in the car . This year will be a little different . Formerly , the food was a la carte , but this year it will be a meal including a half chicken and two sides . They can come and stay and eat right there at the park . The chicken is prepared by the Walhonding Valley
Firefighters . They start cooking about 4 a . m . Sunday morning and cook until it ’ s done . Also , homemade noodles , baked beans and homemade ice cream are included .”
The Walhonding Rube Band will play on Aug . 1 . “ They have played here for many years , and we are glad to have them back ,” Fischer said . “ Lots of those folks are from this area .”
The Beaver Run Duck Race begins at 3:30 p . m . Winners of the duck race and the raffle will be announced after the race around 4 p . m .
The Coshocton County Health Department will offer free bloodpressure checks , health screenings and COVID vaccinations on Aug . 1 . They will test for Lyme disease and ticks as well .
Teams from surrounding counties will play in the Rollie Darr Memorial Baseball Tournament all weekend at the park .
“ We will be having a recognition ceremony for Skip Ferrell on Sunday ,” Fischer said . “ He was a local businessman , one of the original park
board members , and donated a lot of his time and effort throughout the years . We are fortunate this year to be able to do things like we used to .”
